This course is designed to help you build a solid foundation in programming fundamentals using Swift as the language. You’ll get practical experience with the tools, techniques, and concepts needed to build a basic iOS app from scratch. You’ll also learn user interface design principles, which are fundamental to programming and making great apps. Prior programming experience is not required for this course. If you have programming experience, you can move through the early lessons quickly as you continue to learn about software development tools, concepts, and best practices that go beyond programming fundamentals.

  • Absolute rubbish

    By Top Cat 500
Apple are a company that prides itself with well designed products. However, this is absolute rubbish. As someone with experience of teaching both low-level and older high level languages, I hoped to be able to up-date my knowledge with Swift. It clearly is a powerful language, with useful tools, but this neither described the process of programming, nor usefully introduced the principles of Swift well. A number of the playgrounds do not work as intended, and as another reviewer has commented, learners get little guidance as to what they are aiming to do, nor any ‘correct’ answers to review and reflect on. Don't bother. I know its free, but we should expect more.

  • No Help!

Don’t bother!! When it comes to doing the lessons, you have no idea what you are supposed to be doing or what you are doing is even right. There are no answers to check that you are doing it right….. waste of time!!

  • 5 stars .. but with a big caveat

    By Octane
I have to give this book 5 stars because it’s moved me further along than any of the other books I’ve read on learning Swift. However, had I not hand the source code to hand, it would have been impossible to accomplish anything — I’ve seldom encountered a book with such inconsistences, poor instructions, entire portions of instructions that are absent, errors, inacurancies, the list goes on. If you’re preparing to follow this book — which I do recommend — be patient and don’t feel bad for “cheating” by looking at the source code, because if you don’t, a lot of what you’re asked to do won’t make an ounce of damn sense. Good luck!
