From legendary director Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus) comes a gripping tale of human strength and the will to survive. During a mission to Mars, American astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead and left behind. But Watney is still alive. Against all odds, he must find a way to contact Earth in the hope that scientists can devise a rescue plan to bring him home.

  • IN MY TOP 10

I loved this film, and although you may not like sci-fi, this film is great. Mark Watney was played perfectly and also it is in some aspects unrealistic but if you are looking for a mars film it is always going to have to be set in the future. It is about 5th in my top 10 movies and is funny. The comedy is not a large part of the movie though but there are a few funny jokes thrown in at different points and I think all the actors were good and they were written how they would react in real life. I would defiently recommend this to a friend and i think the would all too. If you love any action, sci-fi, drama, comedy film this is defiently for you

  • Typical Hollywood Depiction

    By GHD2016
I write this from a British perspective. If this film had been set 500 years from now, it might just have been believable. The fact that it is supposed to be the present day makes it as believable as me saying I will be the next US president. Astronauts travelling to and from mars in a spaceship sitting around eating and drinking and chatting as if they were on the earth? Some incredibly cheesy acting and typical 'pearl harbour' style Hollywood scripting. The whole film is a United States Chest beating activity. It's so far fetched on some occasions that you can barely watch it without laughing. You might find this watchable for its entertainment value but if you have any serious interest in space and astronomy, give it a miss, you will end up tearing your hair out.
