“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

This movie was terrible.firstly this movie was not needed and just a way to make money. Eddie was alright though

No story, no characters and no magic. If you're a teenage fan of Eddie Redmayne you might just be able to sit through this dire rubbish. Looks like a cynical attempt to drag out the franchise and to tap into the US market. Truly awful.
  • Genius casting

A lot of people slammed Redmayne/Newt Scamander for not being Radcliffe/Harry Potter e.g. not an epic quest, big battle type of storyline/"macho"character. Which is only the point of the whole movie! Redmayne's portrayal of Newt is the reason I went to see the movie, which itself is a great addition to the "Potterverse". Newt is a scholar, seeking to understand the amazing creatures he finds & teach others in turn. Refreshing to see a different version of masculinity portrayed by Hollywood for once, not dependent on guns, fistfights, car chases or explosions (don't get me wrong I like Bond movies etc. too) & Redmayne does it brilliantly.

Awesome family film, it fits so perfectly within the Harry Potter universe despite being set prior to the events of the previous films. Can't wait for the sequel!!!
