Description

A UNITED KINGDOM is the true story of the forbidden love of King Seretse Khama of Botswana (David Oyelowo) and Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike), a white woman from London, which caused an international uproar when they decided to marry in the late 1940’s just as apartheid was being introduced into South Africa. It was a decision that altered the course of African history.

That proves nothing is more powerful than love, in love doesn't exist colours or religion .
  • All rather insulting really.

Lazy writing and direction waste this story. A one dimensional cartoon villain that is beyond badly drawn is just one of the many problems in this join-the-dots plodder. Everything is so obvious and signposted. Perhaps it belongs on childrens television? Certainly you feel like you are being manipulated by a child. And as an adult, it's just kind of insulting.

The acting was impressive, David Oyelowo was good with the speeches he performed and they were very convincing. Rosamund Pike was not very good at acting but David was a lot better. The story was fascinating and very touching.

Such a beautiful story of how love conquers all, told in the most beautiful way. Great movie, would definitely recommend.
  • Just like Marmite you will either love this film or hate it.

If you enjoy feel good movies based on, 'Real Events' but with a few subtle changes to ensure the script holds together then this film is for you. Beautifully shot and well acted. However, if you enjoy dramatic films with lots of action you might struggle. Just like Marmite. You will either love it or hate it.

A glorious and moving tale of love and politics well acted and beautifully filmed. It tells a true story (taking a few liberties, but not many) of hope in a continent where that is often lacking. There are flaws, but they are few, and are outweighed many times over by the power of the narrative. Nearly a great film, certainly a very good one.
