  • Disappointedly not for us

We Normally love musical movies and having read all the rave reviews we were expecting to settle down and be totally immersed with this one, sadly the movie was not for us, so much so that we pressed the stop button well before the end.

    Just bad film
  • Not bad..

This wasn't a bad movie, I wasn't expecting to find it watchable but it was! It certainly wasn't deserving of an Oscar win, as there really isn't much to the story. It's about a relationship, set against the backdrop of Hollywood but the relationship isn't fleshed out at all or the characters given much to work with. When you take away the pizazz there's a very flimsy storyline underneath. Don't expect much if you watch it.
  • It really is great!!

It really is great. Lovely soundtrack; the cinematography is like nothing we have seen in quite a few years. Almost a David Lean type focus on the picture. But it's not perfect. The miming to the songs is terrible and so very obvious it's on a different sound tape/been recorded separately; the storyline is a little weak; and the dancing, although fun, does not seem natural, as if the stars of the movie are constantly counting the steps and moves in their heads. But overall it is super and well-worth watching.

Big fan of Stone and Gosling, however this film is far from a masterpiece, nothing memorable about the story except the last few seconds of the ending!
  • Not sure why everyone is raving about this

Sure the music is good but it's such a throwback to rogers and Hammerstein but without really adding anything and without the joy that it's no fun watching it. The characters are cold and cinematography is not special. The character of Sam is thin. The female lead is good, but I really couldn't understand why it got such fawning coverage. It completely pales by comparison with the related but far far superior French file 'The Artist'.
  • Worst Musical Ever.

An overated film, in my opinion. I really don't know how it gets five stars from anyone. There's nothing like a good musical, and this IS nothing like a good musical. Very disappointed.
  • Pretentious Sh**e

Started watching it and only lasted 11mins, then after 3 days of thinking I decided to try and sit through the whole thing. I wish I had stayed with my first option and only watched the first 11mins. Word of advice to any aspiring directors out there, NEVER and I repeat NEVER hire actors who cannot soing or dance to be in a musical....oh and when the audience can see your lead actor counting the dance moves in his head so he knows when to comne in...that's not good. Mediocre dialogue. Forgettable music. Bland dance numbers. I had to watch Grease 2 just to get the stink off of me from this movie.

I was expceting great things with this movie. I sort of enjoyed it, but was left completely underwhwelmed. It will make it's way into musical theatre soon. Maybe it will be better suited there.
