Based on the best-selling book series by highly-acclaimed author Stephen King, in the parallel realm of Mid-World, the once-respected Gunslinger Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has abandoned his ancient oath to protect the Tower that is being threatened by the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) who seeks to destroy it and life across the universe. In New York City, teenager Jake has recurring visions that signal the end of the universe and when he stumbles upon a hidden portal he travels to Mid-World, meets Roland and the two must embark on an adventure to find the Man in Black and save the Tower.

  • Disappointing adaptation.

You don’t expect much from a book adaptation that takes seven books (each longer than the last) and condenses it into a 95 minute movie but this film was even worse than I expected. The plot made very little sense, the main villains motives were bland and the main character (who tried hard to put complexity into an under developed role) was dull. Not sure how a book series by a seminal horror writer ends up as a film with such a low certificate score either? Avoid.
  • Zero plot

I read a few of the reviews first but thought i'd give it ago as they were a pretty mixed bag, but it's fair to say its 2 stars max, I still have no idea what on earth was going on. There's no real plot around the dark tower or what the heck is going on. Okay for background noise if you want to fill the void but otherwise i'd steer clear and find something else.
  • So disappointed

I hadn’t read the books and saw this movie coming so went ahead and read the first few books before watching the movie. The books are very long and quite a job to wade through but they are compelling and fun. The movie however just ripped the original story to shreds and threw some of the story together without any real sense and never really told much of the story. Don’t bother.
  • Very watchable

A decent, well cast, watchable movie. However, if you're hardcore into the Dark Tower series, or a massive Stephen King fan, then you'll probably be a bit disappointed. The Dark Tower books are shouting out to be made into a decent TV series, to rival the likes of Game of Thrones.
  • Well adapted into a film

Actually quite difficult to recognise the books at all with this film. The books are great, highly recommended, but so is this film. My favourite film for 2017. Really really different and original. Class acting and production.

  • So disappointing

I was waiting so long for this film. Loved the books - even read all of them twice. This film doesn’t follow any kind of story, it flits around and makes stuff up as it goes along! Really was bad. Don’t bother watching.
  • This is Definitely Not A Good Film.

This Is Definitely Not A Good Film.
  • What was this RUBBISH - and that's being polite.

If Stephen King did write this, someone without his brilliance adapted it for the screen and an idiot directed it. Utter and outright tosh. Incoherent. I cannot believe the actors involved knew how bad it would turn out. Worst film of 2017 or even longer.
  • Kind of worked and enjoyed it enough

Renter £5.49 which is more than likely I would normally pay to satisfy my intrigue. As a loose basis of the Dark Tower novels it works ok however it skirts details so lightly that it whats loses the magic and appreciation of the books. I am a die hard book fan San salivated as each one came out over the years. As a film buff this was a 6.5-7 out of ten as a pure standalone entertainment film. It invited depth but never gave any and it used the lightest premise of the book plot and characters + ideas to get there. The end....slightly disappointing but then what else can you do in the time?? Overall the Dark Tower ought to start as a GOT type TV series, although the fan base and subject matter probably isn’t enough to sustain an audience at a production level and profit that would enable this which is a shame. Maybe one one day it may be made.fingers crossed, would like to see that.
