From the Academy Award® winning director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, DETROIT tells the gripping true story of one of the darkest moments during the civil unrest that rocked Detroit in 1967. John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) plays a security guard caught up in the crossfire after a late-night police raid sparks a violent revolt that spirals out of control and turns the city into a war zone. This thrilling, intimate film is essential viewing - an urgent, masterful recreation of history with haunting parallels to the present.

  • Gripping, provocative and extremely tense.

    By Chris Parkes
This is a very tough, uncomfortable film to watch. The events portrayed are sickening and vile, and filmed and acted in a documentary fashion. This is a film intended to provoke very strong reactions in the audience and it really works. It’s not entertainment and it does not have an easy release or get out clause, and that’s appropriate considering the subject matter. A note- the film’s marketing puts John Boyega front and centre, but this really is an ensemble piece, with the entire cast delivering gripping performances. The standout though is Will Poulter, who delivers a very complicated performance of an absolutely vile human being.
  • Gripping but not everyone's cup of tea

Didn't expect to like it but was truly gripped. It was pretty tense. I think Bigelow's style is growing on me. The trailers were deceptive though. I thought John Boyega's character was central but he wasn't. I think the evil character portrayed by Will Poulter was the main one - it's he's racist decisions that move the movie forward.
  • Not Great!

I thought the story was extremely narrow and ended up with me just wanting the thing to end. Have been to Detroit so was keen to understand more of the background of social challenges that are still there (worse than ever) even today. Could have been a great story but really lacked scope. Disappointed.

    Rubish waste of money
  • Disappointed

Waited for ages for this to come out on download and have to say the wait was wasted. So much more could have been done to liven this up. Didn’t believe many of the actors, found it to be pretty slow and boring. The previews show the good bits which there were few of and gutted I paid £9.99 for this film.

John Boyega a good actor but so full of himself I can’t bear to watch him on screen. So no mate I’ll suffer Star Wars because I have to but not this and not Pacific Rim. The film tries to make this out to be murder yet admits to making it up or ‘dramatic license’ but the courts decided the facts showed this was not the case. So it’s a pointless film. Well made and framed.
