Award-winning actress Frances McDormand (Fargo) delivers a stunningly powerful performance in this darkly comic drama that has been hailed as one of the year’s best films. A murdered girl’s defiant mother (McDormand) boldly paints three local signs with a controversial message, igniting a furious battle with a volatile cop (Sam Rockwell) and the town’s revered chief of police (Woody Harrelson)

Surpassed my expectations after hearing that this was a great film. A lot the trailer does not show which is great. Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell are outstandingly good. A really well thought out film.

All the hype, excellent cast, actually underwhelming. Great themes and ideas, but film overbaked and story disjointed. Finished feeling a bit cheated
  • Underwhelming.

This film doesn't know if it's a tragic comedy or a drama or both . . . but it fails as either. Decent acting from the 3 lead roles, although some of the supporting roles were atrocious - at times it was like watching a high school amateur dramtics performance. This may have been intended for comedic effect - and if so, simply doesn't work. On a positive note, the creators have attempted something original with a storyline that has strong potetial - which sadly isn't fulfilled.

    Such great acting
  • Deserved Oscars, without question

Exceptional film showing the really best acting skills of talented performers. Convincing, thought provoking and very good filming. The plot itself is well constructed and plausible. I would suggest one of the top 10 films of the last 5 years. In it's own catogory of films, it must be at the top. Even the rather bad language worked in this film and, surprisingly, made me laugh at one point. Brilliant script.
  • Bizarre and shallow

Are you kidding me? Is this the best Hollywood can come up with nowadays? You cannot empathise with any of the characters ( even the supposed protagonist) as they are not remotely likeable, and all they do is curse all the time. Is this bunch of redneck hillbillies reflective of small town America? Hollywood has forgotten how to fundamentally tell a story , which should be the basis of any engaging film.
