Description

Academy Award® winner Gary Oldman gives a “towering performance” (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair) in acclaimed director Joe Wright’s soaring drama DARKEST HOUR. As Hitler’s forces storm across the European landscape and close in on the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill (Oldman) is elected the new Prime Minister. With his party questioning his every move, and King George VI (Ben Mendelsohn) skeptical of his new political leader, it is up to Churchill to lead his nation and protect them from the most dangerous threat ever seen. Also starring Academy Award® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James, DARKEST HOUR is a powerful, inspirational drama.

Amazing movie. I very very rarely watch a movie of this genre, I am so glad I did. Gary Oldman is excellent as Winston Churchill, never ever could I imagine Sirius Black portraying this character, but Oldman pulls it off splendidly. A great educational tool too I feel in schools, teach our history and educate what possibly did happen in the war. Overall, this film is definitely one to watch and keep you in awe of events that happened in our British history 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧👏👏👏👏👏

This is a very enjoyable film to watch with some very accomplished acting performances. However, as a history lesson it has a lot of inaccuracies. It always staggers me that the film industry can set out to document an historical story, and then makes it up as it goes along...U571 being perhaps the most obvious culprit. NB, if you want to know about Dunkirk watch the original with John Mills...l

Well written but what a horrible little man Winston Churchill was, very well acted don’t get me wrong but his character is unbearable.
  • Way poorer than expected

After all the great reviews I was expecting something good but instead had to force myself to get to the end of this turgid, insipid and above all exceedingly tedious fantasy version of history. Very very poor.

One if the best films I’ve ever enjoyed. If ever defeat weighed on one individual! Gary Oldman is phenomenal. Role of a lifetime. Incredibly proud to a Brit!

One of the greatest political dramas ever made. A film finely tuned by Joe Wright.

Top film. Gary Oldman is great. There was one bit when they were talking about sending boats to Dunkirk to rescue the soldiers when I hoped he would say “Send everyone” with someone else replying “What do you mean everyone?” so he could yell “EVERYONE” like in Léon.
