Description

Academy Award® winner Gary Oldman gives a “towering performance” (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair) in acclaimed director Joe Wright’s soaring drama DARKEST HOUR. As Hitler’s forces storm across the European landscape and close in on the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill (Oldman) is elected the new Prime Minister. With his party questioning his every move, and King George VI (Ben Mendelsohn) skeptical of his new political leader, it is up to Churchill to lead his nation and protect them from the most dangerous threat ever seen. Also starring Academy Award® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James, DARKEST HOUR is a powerful, inspirational drama.

  • Way poorer than expected

After all the great reviews I was expecting something good but instead had to force myself to get to the end of this turgid, insipid and above all exceedingly tedious fantasy version of history. Very very poor.
  • OMG What a film!

One if the best films I’ve ever enjoyed. If ever defeat weighed on one individual! Gary Oldman is phenomenal. Role of a lifetime. Incredibly proud to a Brit!

One of the greatest political dramas ever made. A film finely tuned by Joe Wright.

Top film. Gary Oldman is great. There was one bit when they were talking about sending boats to Dunkirk to rescue the soldiers when I hoped he would say “Send everyone” with someone else replying “What do you mean everyone?” so he could yell “EVERYONE” like in Léon.
  • A really great film.

Apart from the great acting, the thoughts provoked by the film are endless. Well worth your time and money.

Gary Oldman is superb. You find yourself believing that you are actually watching Churchill in the flesh. The film gives you an insight into what it was actually like in the lead up to Dunkirk and had me buying into the film from the outset. Great cast superb from start to finish leaving me wanting a follow up........Darkest hour 2???

Love this movie great dramatic and just reminds you how hard it was in the war and Gary oldman played the part of Churchill very well if Churchill was still here now he would be very proud

It’s a cinematic accomplishment to create now for a generation with this war as history, a sense of terror fear and helplessness threaded between the tiers of the British establishment . There are no Great War scenes no epic and splendid heroics yet because it took place there is a raw current of defiance that is palpable. A good film.
  • Almost ruined

By that hideous underground train scene that has a number of highly unlikely working class stereotypes giving Churchill the gee up he needed. I just cringed through that and it distracted me greatly that it’s almost the only thing I remember! Otherwise a good film.
