History is turned on its head in this gripping and intelligent thriller, adapted from Len Deighton's bestselling novel, and starring Sam Riley and Kate Bosworth. The Second World War's Battle of Britain has ended in victory for Hitler's Germany and the population of 1940s Britain struggles to adjust to life under Nazi occupation. Detective Douglas Archer, forced to work under the brutal SS in London, is determined to continue to do his job in the service of his country. When investigating what appears to be a simple black market murder, Archer is dragged into a much darker and more treacherous world where the stakes are as high as the ultimate outcome of the war.

  • A great book ruined

The BBC seem determined these days to make it impossible to hear their dramas, but this is a particularly dismal example of the scratch and mumble school of acting. It’s one thing to be naturalistic, quite another to be inaudible. And as someone who works in TV production, I know this isn’t because of viewers’ hearing or their TVs being set up incorrectly as the BBC tried to claim - it is all to do with tiresome directors trying to be arty at the expense of viewers’ enjoyment.
  • Great series

I loved it, gripping and well done alternative history period drama. Detective film noir on TV!

An interest plot. The politics and twists are very welcome. Acting good and no problem with the voices of the actors. Certainly good enough to continue.
  • Boring

    Just boring
  • Just another detective series?

    By JoeBloggs007
Episode 1 has not excited me, i really find it hard to believe that the British public would be so co-operative 8 months after the Battle of Britain. This has started as yet another detective series and little about occupied Britain, sorry but was expecting something much more meaningful and realistic, not another of the same old. The dialogue as mentioned in the media is poor, why the BBC do this i don't know as there is no need at all. Let's see if episode 2 is better, certainly won't be purchasing it though
  • No subtitles?

Great show so far. Seems to be inspired by Amazons Man In The High Castle. Was just disappointed to find another UK show on iTunes without subtitles. Why does this happen so often with the UK iTunes Store? Other regions get subs for U.K. Shows. I guess I'll watch this on iplayer instead, complete with free subs.
