Description

On the drug-infested streets of West Baltimore, there are good guys and there are bad guys. Sometimes you need more than a badge to tell them apart. From HBO comes Season 1 of this highly realistic drama series that follows a single sprawling drug and murder investigation in Baltimore — one that culminates in a complex series of dangerous wiretaps and surveillance. Told from the points of view of both the police and their targets, the series captures a universe where easy distinctions between good and evil, and crime and punishment, are challenged at every turn. The ensemble cast includes Dominic West, John Doman, Idris Elba, Frankie R. Faison, Larry Gilliard Jr., Wood Harris, Domenick Lombardozzi, Deirdre Lovejoy, Wendell Pierce, Lance Reddick, Andre Royo and Sonja Sohn.

First few episodes are difficult but keep with it and then like a flash you will realise how amazing it really is.

All I can say is excellent. Nothing compares. I remember reading the advertising hype "makes NYPD look like the Bill", what more is there to say.
  • Excellent! TV drama of a very high standard.

A really well-crafted series. The actors were all suitably cast and Dominic West's Jimmy McNulty was a solid peg to hang the first season on… a believable American accent from a Brit. Idris Elba's portrayal of Stringer Bell was full of understated menace and he is another Brit with a good American accent. Sherwin Harris's Avon Barksdale was ruthless and uncompromising. Wendell Pierce played Bunk Moreland, a detective who was a great foil for Dominic West's misanthropic detective. Michael Williams played the humorous homosexual character, Omar, who was tough as nails and robbed other dealers with a smile on his face. There were very strong performances from a host of actors who supported the main characters. The action is set in Baltimore USA and there is a strong sense of the darker underbelly of a big city. Highly recommended to all who like multi-level plots and action. Slow to unfold but well worth the effort in deciphering the language of the street and the interactions between the various actors. Not to be missed! Five stars from me.

This has to be the most depressing and uninspiring box set you could ever purchase. I think the love of this series comes from people in the USA rather than the UK. Not one person I speak to here likes it. I can see why. If you are looking for a series with twists and turns then this is not for you. If you want something to make you feel terrible about life then this is for you. Not a chance that you could ever rate this above the likes of The West Wing, Lost, Sopranos etc etc.

This is an incredibly clever drama which expects a lot from the viewer. From the thick Baltimore accents to the spider web plots. This is tv at it's finest.
  • Was sad when I got to the end of the WHOLE series
