Description

Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy) stars in the action-packed military thriller THE LAST SHIP from blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay (Transformers). Based on the best-selling novel by William Brinkley, the series opens with a global pandemic that has nearly decimated the world's population. After four months of radio silence in remote Antarctica, the crew of the U.S.S. Nathan James is heading home with microbiologist Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) -- the only person who might hold the key to stopping the virus. But the crew and its captain (Dane) must wrestle with the reality of their miraculous existence in a world where they are among the few remaining survivors. Now, their duty is to the entire world. Their last mission is the world's only hope -- stay alive until a cure is found -- for our future, our families and for all humanity.

A decent story, well told. Thank you for putting up the second series, too.
  • Storyline had potential.

But this is no Walking Dead. Lots of moralising and poignant speeches, accompanied by solemn grimaces.
  • Good stuff, typical bloke action stuff, without going silly .

This is at least worth renting even if you don't go the whole hog and buy it like I did. The plots follow a reasonably cool post apocalyptic storyline, with some moments of inspired script writing and plot lines. It is excellent for 'making it appear real' and most of the acting is very good. For me, well, it's a good yarn, good to watch with friends who aren't into the 'Walking Dead' type shows, because it keeps a sense of realism and down to earth plots. The sets, scenery etc are well done. I have some reservations, but not criticisms of some of the acting. I guess you are never sure whether thats down to the acting or to the director :-) The plot is also a typical wide ranging series of episodes, and I don't think it could easily fit into becoming a movie say compared to the more straight forward plots of 'The Bedford Incident' or 'Crimson Tide'. I look forward to series two. I hope it won't be long before they release it on iTunes. I just hope we don't get into plots with cowboys.... For me, when this happens I always think it's a sign that the budget has run out, and they need to produce a few episodes cheaply . (Usually with a change of scriopt writer, dull plots and limp acting (- remember some Star Trek episodes in the wild west?) But I live in hope. Season two? Bring it on. PJ April 2015
