If you love 80's music with a fresh twist (with a touch of rock) then you'll love Blossoms! It's great to finally listen to something that's not manufactured pop.

Kicking off with the ever so popular ‘Charlemagne’ gives the album a radio friendly vibe, never a bad move but somewhat on the predictable side. Tried and tested fan pleasers are placed at the beginning of the album, allowing a nice surprise when ‘My Favourite Room’ changes tack and gives it an essence of delicacy. The second half is much more stripped down than the first, which tends to be flooded with sound. The focus is very much on Tom Ogden’s vocals, showing a vulnerability that the album needed to make it soar through the charts. Alongside Charlemagne and Getaway, other outstanding tracks include Honey Sweet and Blown Rose.

Found this trawling for new stuff and glad I did, take bands like Suede, Flock of Seagulls, Petshop Boys, OMD, whack them in a blender and you'll get this coctail of the best of the eighties. The writing is excellent, it's sonically soothing and it gets under your skin. Buy it!

Blossoms debut album feels like the beginning of the next new wave of indie music. Tracks like Honey sweet, getaway, at most a kiss, feel like a fresh start in the scene. Also a good live band with the charisma and swagger to take the tunes to the stage. The days of arctic monkeys and libertines clones seem to be behind us now for the better.
