A brilliant album, despite criticism...
As the first Red Hot Chili Peppers album in a while not to feature John Frusciante on guitar, it's understandable that One Hot Minute was destined for a battering from music critics. The album was widely described to have 'lacked focus' and yes, it's release showed a radical altering in the band's style.
Despite all this, One Hot Minute certainly does not disappoint as a musical masterpiece. It features plenty of guitar overdubs, producing a heavier and thicker mix, inventive basslines and pounding drum grooves to hold it all together. Definitely worth the listen!
